It's time again for BarCamp! Time has flown and in a short three days, we'll be kicking off the second "unconference" held in South Florida. By the way, Orlando will soon host its second BarCamp as well, in April.

Over 250 people have signed up to BarCampMiami and we will accomodate more than 50 presentations. If you're attending, here's an update :

  • The event will be held from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday, February 28th at the Knight Concert Hall;
  • A list of participants and presentations can be found at http://barcampmiami.eventbrite.com;
  • The first 100 people will get a free BarCampMiami tshirt;
  • Please note that there will be no food offered, so plan in advance. There will be soft drinks and refreshments;
  • We have been promised wi-fi; if you plan on presenting, please have a PowerPoint backup in case the wi-fi doesn't work;
  • BarCamp will be held in some open spaces at the Knight Concert Hall; at 5:30pm, we will move into the rooms that FOWA used for the day's workshops;
  • We will be twittering during the event, you may add us @BarCampMiami;
  • BarCampMiami on the web: registration page, wiki and Facebook event.
BarCampMiami is made possible by the generous contribution of the 18 sponsors listed in the sidebar.

Afterwards, Nokia S60 is hosting a party where they will raffle off an N95. For more details, see their site to RSVP.

Please also note that ServerGrove Networks is offering $60 off hosting to interested participants.

In addition to the sponsors, we would like to thank the BarCampMiami planners for their time and effort:

Top 10 Events for Bloggers

Mashable posted an article on the Top 10 Events for Bloggers and ists the first one as BarCamps. We've hosted BarCamp in Miami in Feb'07 and the next one will be in Feb'08, in conjunction with FOWA Miami:

BarCamp is a different kind of conference where bloggers, new media enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs gather to learn and discuss various aspects of the new media among themselves. There are no set agenda or pre-decided speakers and everyone is free to join.

The first BarCamp was organized in California by a group of 6 people as a weekend conference. The camp was an instant hit and since then there have been more than 150 camps organized across the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia with more than 10,000 people attending. The second anniversary of the BarCamp was celebrated in August this year.

BarCampMiami will not be a Geek-only event: all topics are welcome, ranging from art to tech. Please visit the BarCampMiami page for more info and to sign up ... for free!

Announcing BarCampMiami 2008

We're very pleased to announce the second edition of BarCampMiami, to be held on February 28th, 2008. It's been a long and busy year since the first Barcamp-Miami this year, also on February. Along the way, we've been meeting up regularly at RefreshMiami and NextMiami events. But it's been too long since our BarCamp and we'll do everything to make the next one worth the wait.

We hope that BarCampMiami can help our community grow and start to bridge the Dade-Broward web/tech communities. Also, we will have a national and international showing with the FOWA attendees and this is the opportunity to meet new people and VCs and to shine.

We're very much looking forward to the Future of Web Apps conference in Miami, and BarCampMiami will be held in the same venue. BarCamp is a free event thans to our sponsor. Two sponsors have signed up already: ServerGrove Networks and Scrapblog*.

Here's how to participate in BarCampMiami:

  • Sign up for free on the wiki
  • Tell your friends and blog about BarCampMiami
  • Help out if you can

Here's how to help:

  • We're looking for more sponsors, to cover the cost of t-shirts and incidental expenses, which will include soft drinks and sandwiches. Sponsorships are limited to $250.
  • We're looking for catering, including soft drinks and food.
  • We're looking for someone to print our t-shirts.
  • We'll also need to figure wi-fi for the venue.
  • We'll need to print some banners, so we need help designing and printing these.
  • We need to get the word out to the South Florida web/tech/startup community.

The adventure has started and it's going to be great!
